JOB DESCRIPTION: Northeast Kingdom Television, (NEK-TV) a non profit organization that manages the use of Public Access resources, located in Newport, seeks applications for the position of Station Manager/Executive Director. Summary Description: The Station Manager/Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer and principal spokesperson for NEK-TV. Key responsibilities include fund raising activities, and oversight of such areas as outreach, promotion, training, production, and programming. This creative person must lead and inspire others, ensure the fair and equitable delivery of services, and encourage the growth of diverse and quality programming. The Executive Director reports to the NEK-TV Board of Directors, must work effectively in a team environment, and interact well with leaders of local government, schools and organizations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Give innovative and effective direction and leadership to the formulation and achievement of NEK-TV philosophy, mission, and its annual goals and objectives. Work with the Board and staff to develop and implement all policies, procedures, and long-range strategic plans. Prepare periodic reports regarding progress toward and barriers to the achievement of such policies and plans. Prepare and, following Board approval, administer the NEK-TV budget. Develop and implement responsible fiscal procedures and policies. Negotiate and ensure compliance with NEK-TV contracts. Aggressively and creatively seek additional revenues through grant writing and other fund raising efforts consistent with the mission of the organization. Seek out, hire, and supervise a community-oriented team of support staff as needed. Oversee outreach and promotional efforts, and administrative, financial, and program operations. Supervise the development of existing space at NEK-TV for a community media Oversee the purchase and installation of all new production and office equipment (including preparation of bid specifications, vendor selection, etc.). Oversee the development of an active volunteer program. Establish and oversee community media training programs. Maintain a close working relationship with representatives of community organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Educational experience: Knowledge/Skills: Fund raising, including short-and long-term planning, grant writing, and the ability to cultivate positive relationships with the funding community. Knowledge of fiscal administration, planning, management of nonprofit organizations, and human resource development. Personnel management skills, including responsibility for hiring and termination. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Understanding of budget processes and financial development. Desirable Qualifications: Experience in leading a nonprofit organization, preferably in non-commercial community media. Experience in working creatively and effectively with a volunteer Board of Directors and a variety of committees and individuals. Verbal and writing skills that reveal an ability to communicate with and make presentations to various business, academic, community, and government organizations. Experience in working effectively with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate active outreach/volunteer programs. Anticipated Employment Starting Date: August 15, 2008 This job description should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards for the position. The starting salary will range from $32,000 - $37,000 based upon the applicant’s qualifications and salary requirements. A benefits package may be negotiated.
