Programs on NEK-TV

                 The number of programs shown on the two NEK-TV channels (14 and 15) are so numerous and diverse it would be difficult to name them all.  So instead, we will provide you with a list of some of our regular shows and program categories.

Days and times programs will appear are  cited in our program schedule. Due to varying times of services, quick “filler” programs, public service announcements, etc., are added throughout the day.

      Arts Programming - Music, drama, dance...much of which features the best in their respective fields.

      Current Events/News – Local creations on area topics, civic matters, Dept. of Education, etc.

      Music Tyme – Recordings of local and regional musicians, all genres, including Kingdom Sound TV.  Clean, often religiously inspired.

      History and Heritage – Locally provided documentaries on area history as well as outside presentations on state, national,  and world subject matter.

      Silver TV – News and features relating to the retired, elderly population, including consumer alerts, health, and financial matters.

      Open Forum – Interview format, occasional remote videography of area events, hosted by local community producers Charlie and Chrissie Billis.

      OSHER Series – Intellectual, a whole gamut of eclectic subject matter at Newport’s State Office Building, courtesy of community producers Peter Carragher and Sylvie Larrivee.  This series is a result of a philanthropist by the same name with chapters in every state, six of which are in Vermont, administered by the University of Vermont.

      Vermont Views – Opinion, talk, relating to Vermont culture, issues, various sources.

      Bulletin Board – A series of announcements for varied, non-profit community events, in slide-show format, created in-house by our  own artistic staff.  Used during its allotted time, the Bulletin Board is often used as a “filler” if times fall short or exceed their minimum or maximum between other programming.   It will hereforth be referred to simply as the BBS.

       Getting Outdoors -  Featuring submitted programs on everything from hiking, hunting, wildlife, flora and fauna, etc.

      Food for Thought – Really a cooking show, featuring articles on nutrition, culinary arts in general, and Vermont cooking and recipes in particular, though not exclusively.

      Medical Matters – A continuing series of programming in regards to medical issues from cellular to molecular, provided by the University of Vermont Fletcher Allen Unit’s Community Medical School.  Averages an hour and a half.

      Governmental Affairs – A smorgasbord of subject matter from submitted press conferences by Vermont’s Washington delegation to locally videoed town meetings.

      Truth in History -  Syndicated religious programming referencing history from a biblical and laic perspective.

      PCP, acronym for Politically Charged Programming -  This includes submitted, local, often controversial political subject matter regarding current events. Open to rantings and ravings of the extreme  left and right, and the occasional in-betweeners.

      Bible Perspectives with Mike -  Local contributor Michael Brasseur reads scripture from the King James Version of the Bible with side commentary.

      The Press Conference – The Vermont Governor’s weekly press conference in Montpelier.  Ranges from one-half to one hour or more.

      School Board Meeting – Depending on time of year, usually features local union high school board meetings. 

      Religious Reflections - Shows of various religious perspectives of interest to the local community.

      NCTV - Live Student News program from the NEK-TV studios at North County.

      Foreign Language and Culture -  An educational series as its name implies, regarding instruction not only in the language but the history behind it to the current day.

      Vintage Videos -  What used to be called in the old black and white movie theater as “fillers” (or  for us in a certain generation, “time out, hurray!”) brings back memories of the infamous 16 mm “instructional” films we used to see in school.

      Bananas – Clean stand-up comedy routines by various comedic artists.  NEK-TV is the only station of any sort in the state to carry this syndicated program which bills itself as “Appeeling Comedy for the whole family”.

      Family Film Night -  Movies, copyright-free or otherwise accessible to us, including local creations, which are suitable and safe for the whole family.

      Classic Cartoons -  Hosted by the Benson Boys, this features the oldies but goodies, classic Warner Brothers, Looney Tunes, Popeye, Betty Boop, etc. that are public domain or we that have secured the rights to air.

      Creature Feature 2000 -  Hosted by local contributor “Too Tall Terry” Dugan, features classic monster and sci-fi movies from the thirties to the B&W drive-in movie dreadfuls of the fifties. Appeals to all ages, nostalgic adults who were there “back when” and a new generation who were never exposed.

      Saturday Afternoon Western -  Old time classic “oaters” with the likes of John Wayne, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Hoot Gibson, and more.

      Falcon Show -  Produced by students in the AV class of North Country Union High School, features school news and notes, sporting events, etc.

      Catholic Diocese of Burlington – Celebrating Mass at various Vermont parishes, primarily in the northern sector of the state.

      And Local Churches such as the United Church of Newport, Morgan United Church, Ste. Mary’s Church, Newport Church of God, Grace Brethren Church, Derby United Church, and the Newport Baptist Church.
